Linate airport closure
From July 27th to October 27th, Milan Linate airport will be closed for major renovations and modernization. All air traffic will be diverted to Milan Malpensa airport [for more information click here].
For the entire period of the Linate closure, Trenord will increase almost 50% the offer of seats per day on Malpensa Express, which will go from just over 39.000 to 58.000 thanks to elongated train composition.
In particular, the runs between the airport and Milan Central will be made by Coradia trains in double composition, going from 300 to 600 seats. On the Malpensa-Milan Cadorna link, rush-hour runs will be upgraded - from 300 to 600 seats; at other times, Coradia 6-coach convoys will travel.
The strengthening of the service will be accompanied by an implementation of assistance and information to customers. At Terminal 2 travelers can already purchase the Malpensa Express ticket directly in the protected baggage claim areas; at Terminal 1 Trenord is working to implement additional sales and information points.
Malpensa Express passengers can also purchase tickets with contactless card and NFC technology, a service that Trenord was the first railway operator to activate. Thanks to this technology, tickets can be purchased by placing the card or smartphone at the Milan Cadorna and Bovisa turnstiles or at the totems present in Milan Central, Porta Garibaldi, Malpensa T1 and T2.
